Road Trip to Indiana!

So this morning started bright and early in Woodstock, VA and finished in Indiana!! We are at Ball State University and will be here for a few days for some professional development conferences.

I crossed off 3 states on the "US states I have not been to list" West Virginia, Ohio and Indiana, we also went through Maryland and Pennsylvania but they are old news to me, ha ha. The road trip was great, it included a small dance party, eating delicious fast food on the go (and isn't that the point of a road trip?) and a good history lesson, all that in 9 hours? not too bad!

We actually got to see Lorin's house and she was nice enough to have us over for dinner, then back to the hotel to complete some assignments and prepare for the week. I also has some free time to catch up on this weeks episode of Project Runway.

Its nice to have a change of pace, the LCs have been at Walton house for about a week so, it will be just like going out on the road. I found out this week that the LC training used to just take place in one week, I would have been so overwhelmed! How can you learn about all of the different officer and chair positions, Panhellenic essentials, National Polices and prepare yourself to meet with Greek Advisors and University officials in one week? I'm so glad we got some extra time on that!

More adventures await!

Officially at Mable Lee Walton House

So, I did it! I arrived at the Mable Lee Walton House in beautiful Woodstock, VA yesterday. I think I was the most excited of all of the consultants, and I just kept walking around saying... "I can't believe I'm really here! I cant believe I am at Walton House!

There is so much history, every corner that you turn, that was one of the founders teapots, that is a composite from one of our earliest chapters, that is Mable Lee Walton's desk-left in the condition that she last worked on it... it just keeps getting better at every turn.

If you want to take a look at what/where I am talking about click on the Sigma website, SigmaSigmaSigma.org and click the link for "Headquarters" and you will be able to take a virtual tour.

Its been great to settle in and touch base with the other
LC's to catch up on what has been happening to all of us since we last saw each other at the Hazing Prevention workshop. I'm glad that coming here I had friends to welcome me, and not strangers who would turn into friends.

Making a packing list... and checking it twice...

Tiffany said to me the other day that she feels like she is a freshman in college going away for the first time, all over again. I can totally relate to that. I have been trying to get everything in order so that I can have a smooth transition to life on the road. I have been emailing the other LCs what I am packing, asking them what they are packing (I'm so glad I did this otherwise I would have forgotten essential things like boxes of contacts, socks, and a jacket, things I didnt really think about in the middle of July). I'm glad I have the other consultants to bounce ideas off of, or I would not have had a preference dress either. Its hard picking outfits too, I have my favorites but now everything has to fit into one suitcase!

I have spent the past few weeks trying to fit in some fun visits. I went to Philly to visit my friend
Ej who recently moved there, she has a fabulous new apartment right in Center City, I am so jealous of her. Dana and I went down for the 4th of July to see the fireworks, it was a ton of fun.

I also managed to go to the Jersey shore to Long Beach Island to visit Bobby, Kate and Alicia my
roommates from last year, I also managed to see my Little, Nikki, and a quick trip to CT to see my old roomie Lindsay. By some miracle my Irish skin also managed to get a tan line... huge surprise!

I keep going over and over the packing list that I made for myself saying, what am I forgetting? I got a new camera as an early birthday present which has been amazing and I cant wait to take a million pictures of my adventure. It seems like so long ago when I got that phone call offering me this job, and now only a few days until I am on my way to Walton house! : )
